Musings about Winter

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

As someone born and raised in California, I deal with 6 months of winter pretty well. I like the snow, I am fairly hearty in the cold. The clear, crisp, cold winter days raise my spirits as much as a nice sunny summer day. Still, I have my moments. A couple of weeks ago I was having nightmares that the first snow would happen any day. The changing of seasons from summer to fall was in the air. I couldn’t believe summer was ending.

Now that fall has clearly set in (ignore today’s hurricane influenced weather), I actually caught myself day dreaming about the winter. I am now looking forward to cooler weather, a bit of snow, coming home to a warm house (it’s been a bit chilly inside since it’s too early to turn on the heat yet). It is funny how the mind works. One minute I am dreading winter and wondering why I live out here, the next I am looking forward to the change of seasons. Actually I think it has more to do with my thesis than the weather. I know that by the time winter really sets in the thesis should be done. Let’s hope that really happens.

New Weblog Service

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

I much prefer Wordpress, and Blogger is much harder to update links and the like– plus Wordpress is a not-for-profit, while Blogger is owned by the mighty Google. In any case, enjoy the new blog, there will be changes coming along in the next several days.

Mirabelle Does New York

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

This isn’t the best picture, but here is Govind and Mirabelle in Central Park. We went for our first vacation last weekend. Actually, Govind had to go to meetings much of the weekend, but Mirabelle and I got to visit with friends and use the stroller a lot!

I had a great time and Mirabelle was great. No loud crying in the middle of the night. What else could you ask for? Posted by Picasa

DNR Picnic and 6 Mile Creek

Friday, June 23rd, 2006

Here are some photos from our adventures at Six Mile Creek and the Dept of Natural Resources picnic. Govind and Charlotte’s mom is posing in front of the newly named “Mirabelle Falls,” which is named after our daughter in honor of Charlotte’s work for Six Mile Creek. Mirabelle enjoyed being held by all of Charlotte’s departmental colleagues.

Greetings from Cayuga Med

Friday, June 16th, 2006

Well, Charlotte and I are hanging out with our friends the prostaglandins, seeing if we can get Junior to cooperate (just wait till she’s a teenager, if she’s like this now! :-) ). Luckily they have full wireless internet in the maternity area!

Off to the Maternity Ward

Thursday, June 15th, 2006

Well, we’re going to the CMC Maternity Ward tomorrow (Friday, June 16) morning for a little help for Junior. We’ll try some non-medical stuff first, but I imagine our content little daughter wants to remain in the nice, cozy womb for the time being. If anything exciting happens, we’ll let you know, of course :-). Here’s a picture of Charlotte today, with her mom in the back.

No Baby Yet

I’ve received lots of queries, but the answer is, no, we don’t have the baby yet :-). We are awaiting delivery!! Hope everyone is doing well.

Ithaca Festival Pictures

Friday, June 2nd, 2006

These are some pictures from the Thursday evening opening parade in downtown Ithaca. The weather was horrible, but most of the city was out in rain gear!

Ithaca Festival Time

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Well, as long as Junior decides to change my plans by being born, this will be the first time that I’m able to get to the Ithaca Festival. The festival’s most famous event is the parade, which they call the “protest everything” parade, culiminating in a Volvo ballet.

Charlotte had another one of her weekly midwife appointments today, and the midwife said that she might have to cancel her Ithaca Festival plans since Charlotte was so close.

Also, Charlotte’s mom arrives next Wednesday morning from California. She’s flying into the ‘cuse, instead of Ithaca, so we might need to get someone to pick her up if Charlotte goes into labor around that time!

Homebrew Heaven

My beer brewing kit has arrived. I’ll be preparing my first batch in time for the arrival of Junior, I hope!

New Picture

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

Hi all,
Well this picture doesn’t even make me look pregnant, but you’ll have to believe me that I have a belly which can be quite obvious. I couldn’t resist using this picture though because it was taken in our backyard. I’m at 37 weeks now and I felt that this dress made me look it, but it’s so hard to see the belly with clothes on and I am not posting naked belly pictures on the web. The little one is a bit more uncomfortable now that she has settled so low, but she is doing well… moving a lot and growing. Now the waiting really begins…

Beer Brewing Kit

Well, I Think I’m Ready!

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

Charlotte just wrote that she is worried about not being ready for the baby to arrive. But, maybe I don’t know any better, but I’m ready :-). Maybe next week?
