Mirabelle likes saying the word hat. So Govind put one on her every time she said it. She didn’t even tear them off. I actually don’t think she knew they were all on her head.

Fall is a time for fun at the local pumpkin patch. They’ve got lots to do, pumpkins, things to climb on, farm animals and good old fashion fun. Too bad Mirabelle was about ready to take a nap.

Mirabelle is big into books nowadays. When a book is selected, she’ll shake her head and say, “yeah, yeah” and insist that we read them. She’s somewhat picky. She like Curious George OK, but her favorites are the Dr. Seuss books, especially Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? and Fox in Socks. She has also grown to like Dr. Seuss’”A, B, C” and “Green and Eggs and Ham”. There are also some non Seuss books like Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and of course Goodnight, Moon. She does not, however, like the Amar Chitra Katha series of Hindu mythology cartoons. The vocab on that isn’t really made for a toddler, so maybe she’ll read it when she starts to read on her own.

Mirabelle has a big fish which she loves to ride at daycare. When I saw this horse I just had to get it for her.

My garden isn’t that great this summer, but we do have enough tomatoes, basil, and collard greens. Most importantly I’ve got some ideas for next year. Mirabelle goes out with me everyday while I pick vegetables. She usually tries some fresh off the vine. One of her favorites is chewing on the stalk of the collard green leaves. Best teething toy ever!

This picture is from a couple of weeks ago, when Mirabelle could walk pretty well, but didn’t want to walk by herself. Now she is wandering around the house all by herself. She also wandered around the party we went to on Sunday. It is a bit hard to carry a conversation when you are chasing after her, making sure she doesn’t get stepped on!

Looking Older

Mirabelle is starting to look older in some of her shots. I think its because she is getting skinnier. Not that she is skinny, but her face looks thinner sometimes. Other times she still looks like a chub!

And she doesn’t only look older, she is starting to act it. She tells you what she wants and boy does she let you know when she doesn’t want something. She says no and shakes her head!

We have been really busy, so we haven’t had time to pick out some birthday party pictures, but Govind has uploaded them all on his flickr page. Also, we have shot a short video of Mirabelle taking a few steps, but that will need to be edited before we post it. So, hopefully the pictures Govind uploaded will tide people over until we write some blog entries.

I just wanted to officially announce that Mirabelle took her first tentative steps on June 12. We will take pictures and post these, maybe also a video soon. Her first birthday is Saturday and her Ajji and Tata are here. We plan to take lots of picture at her party. I am working on a baby’s first year book. I found a website Picaboo where you can download some software to do a pretty nice book. It seems like it will take a lot of time to do, but I hope that the layouts this service offers will help cut down on the time. I think it’s worth it though. Otherwise, we’ll never have the photos, milestones and memorabilia all in one place.

Mirabelle’s first camping experience was a learning experience for us. She was kind of weirded out by sleeping in a tent and woke up several times (I did as well, mainly because we forgot to pack pillows). She also does not like car rides of more than the 10 minutes we do in town, but on this weekend trip, we had some long road trips. In the end, she came around.

When Mirabelle sits in her high chair, she expects, nay, demands that she gets food. Food that she likes also. If it doesn’t meet her standards, it gets chucked onto the ground!

I thought for a while that she knew that it was her in the mirror, but upon completion of a battery of tests (ok, one test), I am now sadly convinced that she thinks that she is playing with another baby in the mirror.
